Using a propagator is the best way to get good germination rates with most types of seeds, especially varieties that need warm temperatures to germinate. However even varieties such as lettuce or brassicas that don’t need particularly warm temperatures benefit from being sown in a propagator, as the temperature remains more even in a garden propagator.
We sell propagators made by Stewarts. We have found that Stewarts propagators are good value for money and reliable. There are electrically heated propagators for seeds that need warmer temperatures to germinate and un-heated propagators when warmer temperatures are not required. The heated propagators are thermostatically controlled so as not to waste electricity.
They have ventilators so the humidity does not get too high inside, as this can cause seeds and seedlings to rot off.
